Failure to maintain books of accounts as prescribed under the law may result in a penalty of Rs. 25,000. In some other cases, where a person has entered into international transactions and failed to maintain records of the same 2% of the value of every such international transaction may be charged as penalty.

Books of accounts are required to be maintained by anyone whose gross receipts
are more than INR 1,50,000 in three preceding years for an existing profession. In
the case of a new job, if the gross receipts are likely to exceed the said
amount, then the rule applies to such professionals too.

Film Artist – including an art director, music director, producer, actor, director,

a tribunal for a fee or any authority constituted under the law.
However, it
does not include an employee of the person so represented or a person or someone carrying on the profession of accountancy.
For any person freelancing under the above-mentioned professions, if the gross
receipts exceed INR 1,50,000 then these rules apply to them.

As per Rule 6F, the following specified books of accounts should be maintained properly:
